Barnbougle’s Lost Farm earns acclaim as the world’s most exciting 20-hole course
The Lost Farm layout at Barnbougle in Tasmania has been recognised by Golf Monthly as one of the world’s most exciting 20-hole courses. Known for its dramatic sand dunes and striking design, the course incorporates two additional par-3 holes—13a and 18a—alongside the standard 18. This design innovation enhances its playability while preserving the rugged aesthetic that defines links golf.
Designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, Lost Farm stands in contrast to its sister course, The Dunes, which offers a more traditional layout. Lost Farm’s wider fairways and visual drama make it a compelling complement to The Dunes.
Golf Monthly emphasised that, despite its world-class reputation, Barnbougle remains relatively affordable compared to other top-ranked courses globally—a factor that drives its appeal for golfers and tourism.
As part of the broader Barnbougle Resort, Lost Farm complements highly ranked options such as the original Dunes course (designed by Tom Doak and Mike Clayton) and the newer Bougle Run par-3 short course, collectively offering exceptional variety.
Barnbougle’s celebrated mix of design pedigree, value, and landscape—exemplified by Lost Farm—continues to attract both serious golfers and casual visitors from around the world.
