Formed by members who stayed behind when Royal Melbourne moved from Caulfield, Metropolitan relocated to its present Oakleigh South site in 1908. Over the decades the championship layout has been refined by the likes of Alister MacKenzie and, after land was resumed for a neighbouring school in the 1960s, by Dick Wilson and more recently Mike Clayton. Renowned for immaculate couch fairways, firm bent-grass greens and its trademark greenside bunkering, “Metro” has hosted multiple Australian Opens, the 2001 WGC-Accenture Match Play and countless elite amateur events.
